Lebron James scored 51 points, against two MVPs, four All-Stars, and still had the game tied. Until a mistake by JR Smith forced Game 1 into overtime.
4.7 seconds left on clock, George Hill had two free throws to tie or grab the lead. Hill made his first to tie the game, missed the second. JR secured the rebound and made one of the biggest mistakes every by dribbling to halfcourt. JR could have attempted a layup and possibly got fouled to take the lead with a pair of free throws. He could have passed the ball to a wide-open Lebron that was at the top of the key. Instead, he dribbled it up the court trying to protect a lead that he thought the team had.
“He thought it was over. He thought we were up one,” coach Tyronn Lue said
Smith, on the other hand, clarified his thoughts during the play. “I just thought we were going to call a timeout.” said Smith “Because I got the rebound, I’m pretty sure I couldn’t shoot it over KD.”
