The War On Drugs Just Got Bigger In Sicario 2

Published

on

The war on drugs just got a lot bigger in Sicario 2: Soldado. Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin return in the sequel to 2015 runaway hit, Sicario.

Sicario focused on Emily Blunt’s F.B.I. agent Kate Macer finding herself recruited into an off-the-books DEA task force by C.I.A. Agent Matt Graver played by Josh Brolin. Things start to take a terrible turn when Gravers brings in Benicio Del Toro’s Alejandro character to do some dirty work.

In the sequel, Blunt’s character does not return. But we get to see Alejandro and Graver operating with no oversight. The war on drugs has escalated, and the cartels are escorting terrorists over the U.S. and Mexico border. Graver is asked to step in and help take care of the problem, with one of his new bosses played by Catherine Keener.

Del Toro spoke to EW about the growth of his character in the sequel.

We learn from Alejandro in Sicario that he was a man who was motivated by revenge, right? And then in Soldado, he gets selected to a new assignment by Josh Brolin and then at some point he’s at a crossroads in that situation where he either has to follow orders or make the right decision, and so that’s kind of where the character’s stuck, you know? And that’s the cool thing about the character, is that he’s got to make a decision and then the consequences will follow if he goes this way or the other way, so I would say that’s the difference for the character in this movie versus the Alejandro in Sicario.

Sicario 2: Soldado stars Benicio Del Toro, Josh Borlin, Catherine Keener, Jeffrey Donovan, and Isabela Moner. Sicario 2: Soldado is set for June 26th, 2018.

on

Aviron Pictures has released the first trailer for their upcoming thriller The Informer.

In the film, honorably discharged Special Ops soldier Pete Koslow’s (Joel Kinnaman) world is turned upside-down when he is jailed after a fight to protect his wife (Ana de Armas). He’s given a chance for early release by becoming an informant for the FBI (Academy Award nominees Rosamund Pike and Clive Owen) and using his covert skills in an operation to take down The General, the most powerful crime boss in New York. But when the FBI sting meant to finally earn Koslow his freedom results in the death of an undercover NYPD cop, Koslow finds himself caught in the crossfire between the mob and the FBI. The General insists Koslow takes the heat and sends him back to prison to spearhead a drug operation from inside, and the FBI affirms that going back to jail to do The General’s bidding is the only way for Koslow to keep his deal with them alive.

The Informer hits theaters March 22, 2019. Joel Kinnaman stars with Rosamund Pike, Clive Owen, Common, and Ana de Armas.
