Sony has made the Men In Black franchise priority for the studio. Earlier this month Sony announced Chris Hemsworth was attached to star in the reboot. Now reports have his fellow Thor: Ragnarok co-star Tessa Thompson joining him to fight more aliens.
Variety is reporting that Thompson is in talks to star in the reboot directed by F. Gary Gay.
Gray’s last two films as director – Straight Outta Compton and Fast & Furious 8 – have been significant hits. And if he signs on the dotted line here, he’ll be working from a script by Matt Holloway and Art Marcum.
The movie is likely to follow the tone of the original trilogy, but simply move on and bring in a new cast. There’s no word yet on when to expect it, though, but don’t be surprised if Sony tries to get it filming this year.
Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones will not reprise their roles in the film as agents J and K. Sony had originally planned on combining the Men in Black and 21 Jump Street franchises. But signs point to that being scrapped for a film closer to the original.
