Run The Jewels Responds To NRA Backlash

Run The Jewel’s Killer Mike spoke out in favor of gun ownership during an earlier interview with the NRA. The NRA decided to post the video during the weekend of the March For Our Lives on March 25.  There was a strong backlash from fans about the interviewing airing and its potential impact.

After sitting for an interview with the National Rifle Association, Killer Mike faced a backlash after the NRA decided to post his interview on the same day as March For Our Lives, a choice which Mike says he had nothing to do with. “I’m sorry that an interview I did about a minority — black people in this country — and gun rights was used as a weapon against you guys,” he said. “That was unfair to you and it was wrong, and it disparaged some very noble work you’re doing.”

In a two-part statement via Twitter, el-P defended his partner saying, “we are our own men and we speak for ourselves individually…there are real differences in our perspectives, but our common ground gets translated into run the jewels music for you.”

The producer went on to praise the activism propelled by the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and March For Our Lives, saying that he was “personally incredibly inspired and blown away by the bravery and emotion of an entire generation of young people standing up and trying to change the world.”

In the final paragraph he concludes, “to any organization that opposes…or seeks to discredit these people trying desperately to change their world, make no mistake: we aren’t on the same ‘side.'”
