Lupita Nyong’o is ready for new role in John Woo’s The Killer remake.
John Woo and Universal Pictures are teaming on a new version of his 1989 Hong King crime classic The Killer. It is intended as a star vehicle for Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o. She is negotiating to play the assassin, a role originated by Chow Yun-fat. The studio has the film on a fast track, with Woo directing.
The original 1989 movie, starring Chow Yun-Fat, Danny Lee, and Sally Yeh, was widely acclaimed and led to Woo being hired by Hollywood studios. Chow played an assassin who accidentally damages the eyes of a singer (portrayed by Sally Yeh). The two fall in love, and he decides to perform one last hit in order to pay for a corneal transplant to prevent her from going blind.
After starring in the Black Panther, Nyong’o he role could be a match made in heaven, especially with Woo back in the directors chair.
