Lebron James Opens The I Promise School In Akron

Lebron James continues to keep his promise to the youth of Ohio.

On Monday, James’ new I Promise School in Akron, Ohio opened, a public school (not a charter school) that will have an enrollment of 240 third- and fourth-grade students in its inaugural school year.

The four-time NBA MVP said this moment was one of the greatest of his career.

James let everyone in attendance know that even though he has moved to LA his heart was still in Akron. “No matter if I’m playing in Los Angeles or not, Akron, Ohio is always home for me.” said James.

In 2015 the LeBron James Family Foundation and the University of Akron announced they would fund full scholarships for students who complete the foundation’s academic program, which James has been sponsoring for five years.

James’ “I Promise” program and the University of Akron have partnered to provide a guaranteed four-year scholarship to the school. Yes, tuition and general service fee’s fully covered–currently $9,500 per year. LeBron told ESPN that he will provide this opportunity for 1,100 kids, which would cost his foundation a total of $41.8 million.
