Kevin Durant won his second straight NBA Finals MVP trophy after sweeping the Cavs.
Critics have been hard on Durant’s decision to join the Warriors instead of resigning with OKC or signing with another team like the Wizards. Some even went as far to say him joining the Warriors has ruined the competitive balance for the league. Durant had the best clap back ever to that.
“My responsibility is to my skills. My responsibility is to myself,” Durant told Yahoo Sports. “I’m not worried about the NBA. That’s their job. They make too much money. They ain’t paying me enough to dictate the NBA. I should be making more money if all that’s on me. My responsibility is to whatever team I play for. All that other stuff, that’s on y’all.”
KD is right. GMs can trade players or not build a competitive roster, but players are expected not to manage their own careers. Players have the right to sign with who they want in free agency. Rather the team the join has star players or not.
All that matters, in the end, is winning.
