Iggy Azalea Announces She’s A Free Agent

Iggy Azalea is officially done with Island Records.

The “Fancy” artist broke the news late on Twitter. “I’m officially unsigned!!!!” she wrote. “Wild you spend so long trying to get IN a record deal… never thought I’d be so elated to be OUT of one. now I’m free to release whatever kinda music I like, whenever I’d like woooo!”

Iggy was initially signed to Def Jam where she dropped her debut album The New Classic in 2014. After her music was continually put on the back burner, she parted ways with Def Jam and signed with Island Records in February. She finally dropped her follow-up Survive the Summer EP in August.

Early this year Iggy shifted from Def Jam to Island Records. After she tweeted out her frustrations with  Def Jam CEO Steve Bartels. “Steve Bartels says he doesn’t want to release another single for my album unfortunately — So that’s that,” she previously wrote on Twitter. “I’m very unhappy with the way things have been handled too. I will make sure it’s not this way for ia3… I can assure you guys of that.”

Azalea hinted at the move earlier during the day.

Iggy first signed to Def Jam back in 2013 when the Universal Music Group imprint was under the Island Def Jam Music Group umbrella.
