Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?
Classic OG is an album about growth & personal development highlighting my maturation process. When I was homeless for 3 months in 2018, I took 100% responsibility & made the decision to focus only on what I want. That’s why I’m grateful for that experience because It helped me clarify what I want in Life.
What is unique about you and your music?
“The opposite of courage in our society is not cowardice, it is conformity.” JJ Finesser’s Music is one of a kind. There’s an authenticity to my music because the process begins with a blue pen and a notebook. The listener can feel the energy of authenticity when they listen to JJ Finesser.
What shaped your music?
Epigenetics is the foundation of Classic OG. I’m thankful my environment influenced my gene activity to express art in a soulful way. Classic OG is a Rap album with a Motown Soul.
When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?
The Summer of 2013 when I recorded my 1st song I’m “En Vogue” from the album “Nalej”. There was an energy of purpose in the studio that night with my Business Partner/Producer Jerry & my comrade, who pitches professionally for the Colorado Rockies farm system, Michael Petersen. He had just gotten drafted that Summer, so it was apropos that the 1st song I recorded was “En Vogue”. It’s 2021, now Jerry & I are working on our 4th project together doing the right things long enough consistently.
What type of music do you listen to?
I’m a lifelong student of Hip-Hop. I have to listen to Hip-Hop everyday. I’m obsessed with Hip-Hop. I study the greats, especially overall multi-faceted artists such as 2pac, Mos Def, & Common Sense. I also listen to a lot of R&B/Soul. Motown & New Jack Swing. Reggae when I’m gardening. It would be an honor to work with Born Jamericans .
What inspires you to write music?
Life & Love. “Music is the soundtrack to your life.” My Papa always enjoys reciting that quote to me. That and, “Marry someone like your Mama. That’s the most important decision you’ll ever make.”
What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?
I sharpen my axe through various methods. Gardening is very important to me. I’ve learned the power from my Great-Grandfather, a World War II Verteran, Bataan Death March POW Survivor. I used to accompany him to the VA & the amount of respect he received from other Veterans inspires me everyday.
I absolutely enjoy reading books everyday. Non-fiction & Autobiographies. I’m always in the student mindset because I’m learning everyday. I’m also very passionate about the game of Basketball. Playing & Mastering the game. Most importantly, Mastering The Fundamentals. It’s of the utmost importance to study the game. so I created an instagram account @championshoop to detail specific plays in high stakes basketball games. NBA Finals & Olympic Basketball only.
