What is your name and what city do you rep?
My name is Bayts and I represent New Haven CT, Newhallville (the ville) section of town.
Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?
My latest releases are “Wintertime Grind” and “Bayts (Six Shots Later)”. Wintertime Grind is a joint EP with my brother and label mate Dunc. We decided to include our live social media and allow our audience to choose the production we used for the project, let them view the writing process, the recording and mixing process in real time. We felt the audience should get a chance to be more involved in the project , almost like an RPG.
Bayts (Six Shots Later) is more a visual of who I am and what I’ve been through in my life .
What is unique about you and your music?
I’m always me no matter the situation, no fabrication. My music reflects my life and my lifestyle. I always stand for whatever I believe and there’s no changing who I am, my flow and cadence in my music. I love to paint a picture for the listener.
What shaped your music?
The 90’s hip hop culture is a big influence on my music. I was maybe 16 when my big homie gave me a Big L tape so I started searching for the 80’s hip hop, then I heard my favorite group LOX and I shaped my talents from the combination.
When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?
I have been making music since a sophomore in high school but I started takin it serious in 2010. That was the year I lost my brother (Tywan “Sukie” Turner). He believed in my music and I swore I would stick to it when I lost him.
What type of music do you listen to?
All genres music for me. I have no limitation. I really enjoy R&B, jazz, and hip hop. Although I will listen to classical, rock, punk rock and Gospel.
What inspires you to write music?
Life. My producers also inspire my music. I listen to an instrumental and it speaks to me, I let the music speak to me. I have to include my team, they play a huge part in my creativity.
What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?
I love to go fishing. I can sit on the water for hours. I also enjoy doing carpentry, a trade my father taught me growing up. I love to see things come to life from people’s imagination.
Happiness to you is…
Happiness is when everyone around me is doing good.
What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?
The sky is not the limit just another level up.
Tell us about your upcoming projects…
