Former NFL Buffalo Bills linebacker Shawne “Lights Out” Merriman signed a contract with WWE late last week. In November, Merriman had a workout at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Fla., but it seemed like nothing developed and a contract wasn’t offered at the time. Then Merriman took part in WrestleMania weekend, including appearing on camera in WWE’s preshow panel for WrestleMania, as well as WWE Raw on Monday. Later in the week, it was announced that he had signed a contract with the WWE.
The announcement that the man once known as “Lights Out” would be “joining the WWE family” came on the John Layfield and Michael Cole podcast, though Merriman’s role isn’t yet known.
Merriman, who starred at the University of Maryland and was taken 12th overall by the Chargers in the 2005 NFL Draft, appeared on WWE’s Wrestlemania pre-match show last weekend. And in November 2013, he tried out at the WWE’s Performance Center but wasn’t offered a contract at the time.
But according to Rey Misterio, Jr., Merriman’s on his way to becoming a “#futurewwesuperstar!”
