Eminem Opens Up About Criticism And MGK

Eminem’s Kamikaze is his ninth number 1 album after the first-week sales projections. Unlike his previous albums, Em skipped the traditional album promotion.

During a sit-down interview with Sway, Eminem discussed the criticism from Revival impacting his mindset on Kamikaze.

“I feel like the way the climate is right now, if you give people enough time to say, ‘Man, he better have a song like this or I ain’t fuckin’ with it, or if he don’t have a song like this, I ain’t fuckin’ with it. He better not be rapping like this. He better not be rapping about this or I’m not going to fuck with it,’” he begins.

“When you go into an album, you can go into anything with the mindset of, ‘This is gonna suck.’ I feel like giving them no warning was the best thing to do … When the Revival tracklist came down the pipe, it was like overwhelmingly, ‘This shit is going to be trash.’ Nobody really wanted to be wrong about it. I’m not saying everybody, but a lot of people had already formed their opinion.”

Em questioned on him calling out MGK and Joe Budden.

“You know you go down the wormhole of YouTube and whatever, right?” Eminem said. “So I see, ‘Machine Gun Kelly talks about Eminem’s daughter’ or whatever, right? So I’m like, ‘What the fuck?’ I clicked on it. Then he starts doing a press run, basically, about Hailie. I’m like, ‘What the fuck? Yo, my man better chill.’ So, that’s not why I dissed him. The reason I dissed him is actually a lot more petty than that. Now I’m in this fuckin’ weird thing, because I’m like, ‘I’ve got to answer this motherfucker.'”
