Eddie Murphy is returning as Prince Akeem in the sequel to Coming to America 2.
After 30 years fans will finally get another installment of the classic. Hustle & Flow director Craig Brewer has signed on as the director, with Murphy set to return.
“After many years of anticipation, I’m thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward,” Murphy said. “We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite, and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen.”
In the original comedy Murphy played Prince Akeem, son of King Jaffe Joffer (James Earl Jones) and Queen Aoleon (Madge Sinclair). Along with his personal assistant Semmi (Arsenio Hall), Akeem travels to the only place to find Queens, New York to find the perfect Queen. While working at McDowells, Akeem finds the woman of his dreams Lisa McDowell (Shari Headley). Murphy and Hall played multiple small characters in the movie.
According to Deadline, Paramount has hired Jonathan Levine to direct and Black-ish creator Kenya Barris to write the script.
