Scarlett Johansson’s Lucy made a ‘Herculean’ effort to win the weekend and beat the demi-god, Hercules, to the top honors at the weekends Box Office. The film also starring Morgan Freeman and written and directed by Luc Besson opened to 44 million. Hercules opened in second place, to the tune of 29 million domestically and another 28.7 million internationally.
Other new comers ‘And So It Goes’ and ‘A Most Wanted Man’ opened in much lower numbers. ‘And So It Goes’ opened to 4.5 million while ‘A Most Wanted man’ opened to 2.7 million.
Transformers: Age of Extinction almost at 1 billion
In not so mind blowing box office news, Transformers: Age of Extinction earned 4.6 million domestically and currently sits at 966 million worldwide. At it’s current rate, the film will be at 1 billion by the end of next weekend.
Coming Soon – Guardians of the Galaxy
Next weekend will also see the debut of Guardians of The Galaxy stateside. The Marvel film has received multiple perfect scoring reviews and appears to be highly anticipated. That film should shake up the box office significantly, if even for just 1 or 3 weekends. But all this is just speculation and we will have to wait for the film’s release to see if reviews amount to ticket sales.
