Jason Momoa’s Aquaman is on the way to becoming the biggest movie DC movie ever.
The Warner Bros. solo film will stay No. 1 in its third weekend with an estimated $25 million domestically as it passes the $900 million mark globally. On Thursday, the movie was sitting around $866 million, including $229 million in North America and $637 million overseas.
Directed by James Wan and starring Jason Momoa, it has now passed Wonder Woman ($821.8 million). Sometime today, it will eclipse Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice ($873.6 million) to become the highest-grossing DC pic since The Dark Knight Rises in 2012, not adjusted for inflation.
The movie rode the momentum of a strong overseas debut.
Aquaman earned $93.6 million over the weekend in China. This was the largest opening ever for a D.C. title in China, outpacing previous titles like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice $55.7 million opening and Justice League $50.5 million opening.
