Anthony Davis Officially Requested A Trade Out Of New Orleans

Anthony Davis’ time in New Orleans is coming to an end. The 25-year-old NBA All-Star wants to be traded to a winning team.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news early Monday morning. Davis’ agent Rich Paul informed the Pelicans that he no intentions on resigning.

“Anthony wants to be traded to a team that allows him a chance to win consistently and compete for a championship,” Paul told ESPN. “Anthony wanted to be honest and clear with his intentions and that’s the reason for informing them of this decision now. That’s in the best interests of both Anthony’s and the organization’s future.”

Davis is eligible to sign a five-year, $240 million supermax extension this summer. The Pelicans are the only team that can offer Davis the supermax if he’s not traded. He can become a free agent in the summer of 2020.

The Boston Celtics have been a team interested in Davis and have the most assets to offer New Orleans. The leauge’s new rules prevent Boston from making a move until this summer. Boston cannot trade for Davis until July 1 because league rules wouldn’t allow Kyrie Irving’s and Davis’ contracts under the designated rookie exception on the roster together.
